video4net, s.r.o. production company, in cooperation with the Town of Prostejov, the Czech Embassy in Poland and other partners, presents a documentary film about Alfred Jansky, the last living Czech citizen who managed to escape from Auschwitz concentration camp.
Alfred Jansky was born on 31st May 1914 in Olomouc. He studied at the Realne Gymnazium grammar school in Olomouc. From 1935-1937 he completed military service and achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. In 1938 he was given an extraordinary posting to the line of defences in the border region of North Moravia, where he fought against the Sudeten German Party. On 1st September 1939, the first day of the war, he was captured by the Gestapo and after brief internment in Dachau concentration camp he was transported to Buchenwald, where he did slave labour in a quarry and road building. In 1942 he was transported to Natzweiler-Struthof camp in France. There he took part in preparing a successful escape by several officers, but he himself remained in the camp. In October 1942 he was transported to Auschwitz and assigned to construction work. In late 1944 he organised an escape by five prisoners who, during a bombing raid in early January, managed to cut the wire fence and hide in a bunker that had been prepared beyond the perimeter of the camp. There they awaited liberation by the Russian Army. Jansky then joined General Svoboda’s Army Corps and fought in Slovakia and Moravia. After the war he fought against Ukrainian Nationalists.
The filming of this documentary took place in the home of Mr. Jansky in Prostejov, in Prerov Chateau during the presentation of the Russian Jubilee Medals and in Oswiecim, Poland, on the site of the former Extermination Camp. After many years Mr. Jansky returned to Oswiecim (Auschwitz) accompanied by his daughter Petra Veverkova and his grand-daughter Marcela Trejbalova.
