Smocek's Dr Burke VIII.
A crazy, surreal comedy that leaves reason standing, then knocks it flat on its back. That is, if it can reach the floor of a packed house. Anyone who saw the legendary performance by “Cinoherni klub” with Boleslav Polivka, Nina Diviskova & Co., will certainly appreciate our courage… But names like Zapletal-Tomicova-Novotny-Zavicar-Maly should guarantee that we don’t sell our souls without putting up a good fight. As the high-minded Spaniard Dali said: "The difference between me and surrealists is that I am a surrealist."
Dr Burke is a kind of modern-day Don Quixote and his colleague Tichy is the loyal Sancho Panza. Dr Burke is a do-good amateur, often even almost a mass-murderer. The troglodytic Svatava longs to marry the South-Bohemian suitor Vaclav Vaclav, who is a real Yokel Yokel. Every morning her mother, the widow Outechova, slaps her hair into two grey pigtails and bakes a mountain of buns. When the pensioner Burke finds out about his tenant’s swan-song, all hell breaks loose!
But don’t worry, it’s all touchingly messed-up and embarrassing. Smocek’s juicy Czech language is dripping everywhere, everyone is joyful – yes, even the fat-loving Great Tit Mana! Welcome to Hradec Burketheatre!!!
The cine4net production studio presents the eighth in a series of reports dedicated to Klicperovo Divadlo dramatic group in Hradec Kralove. This time, we are present at one of the acting rehearsals. Pavla Tomicova, in the role of Svatava, is speaking about the character of Svatava in the play.
